Driving inclusion across Derry GAA
Across County Derry, the continued growth of inclusive Gaelic Games is being driven by three key programmes – Foyle All Stars, Oakleaf Lions GAA, and Derry GAA For All.
Together, they represent the strength of the Ulster GAA Games for All initiative, ensuring that players of all abilities have the opportunity to take part, belong, and thrive within Gaelic Games.
Foyle All Stars: Fun, Fundamentals and Flourishing

Based in Derry City, Foyle All Stars provides inclusive Gaelic football and hurling opportunities for children and young people under 18 who are neurodivergent or have a physical disability. The focus is firmly on participation, enjoyment, and development, rather than competition.
Sessions are built around improving balance, agility, and coordination, while fostering confidence and friendships in a relaxed and supportive environment. The programme continues to grow, with a large number of young players engaging each week and showcasing their abilities.
Training takes place every Saturday at 1pm, currently indoors at St Brigid’s College, Carnhill, with a move planned to Doire Colmcille’s pitch from April 2026. Under the guidance of dedicated volunteers, the club is creating a space where every player is valued and celebrated.
Oakleaf Lions: A Community of Opportunity

Oakleaf Lions GAA, part of the wider Inclusive Sports Hub, has become a cornerstone of inclusive sport not just in Derry, but across the wider region. Welcoming participants from throughout the county and beyond, the hub supports over 80 children and adults with intellectual disabilities across multiple sports.
Alongside Gaelic Games, participants engage in Special Olympics programmes including athletics, swimming, bowling, and Young Athletes. The GAA section trains every Wednesday (April–October) at Owenbeg, alternating between football and hurlogie, and catering for all age groups.
The programme offers players unforgettable experiences — from regional blitzes and the Ulster GAA Games for All Festival to performing at half-time exhibitions and playing at Croke Park during Ulster GAA Day. With athletes also representing Ulster at Special Olympics level, Oakleaf Lions embodies teamwork, pride, and inclusion at every level.
Derry GAA For All: Where We All Belong

In South Derry, Derry GAA For All continues to expand opportunities for children and young people with physical and learning disabilities. Rooted in the GAA’s ethos of “Where We All Belong,” the programme ensures that inclusion remains at the heart of Gaelic Games.
Through a mix of sporting and developmental activities, players are supported in building skills, confidence, and lasting friendships. The initiative creates a welcoming environment where participants, families, and coaches all share in the joy and benefits of involvement in sport.
Training sessions take place every Friday evening from 7pm to 8pm at St Mary’s Glenview (3G pitch) and are open to all ages and abilities. The group is also active beyond weekly sessions, having hosted an Ulster Regional Blitz, attended various Games for All events, and travelled to Croke Park for the annual Inclusion Activity Day.
A United Effort for Inclusion
Together, Foyle All Stars, Oakleaf Lions, and Derry GAA For All highlight the powerful and growing impact of the Games for All movement across the county. Each programme offers something unique, but all share the same core mission: to ensure that Gaelic Games are accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for everyone.
Through the dedication of volunteers, the support of families, and the enthusiasm of players, Derry continues to lead the way in creating opportunities where every individual can take part, feel valued, and truly belong.
